Visual Edit or VE is a simple and lightweight text editor that operates on the terminal. It is heavily inspired by vim and neovim.

// Features //

  • Simplicity. All the commands are beginner oriented and easy to learn . Press CTRL+SHIFT+Colon to open the command prompt, type "help" and press enter to view all the currently available commands as well as further instructions.
  • Intuitive UI. The application uses symbols of the Nerd Font font family to make the UI more intuitive and user friendly.
  • Ease of use. Need to open a file in Visual Edit right away? Just type "ve filename" in your terminal and Visual Edit will automatically open it up for you. PS Make sure that Visual Edit is registered as an environment variable.

// Requirements & OS Compatibility//

Although Visual Edit may work even without the use of Nerd Font, it is highly recommended to use a terminal that has a font of the Nerd Font font family as its font. Otherwise some symbols may  not appear on the screen as they intended.

Furthermore,  Visual Edit has only been fully tested on Windows and support for Linux and MacOS is limited and untested. Users that use the Linux or MacOS distributions may experience bugs or compatibility issues.

// Dev Notes //

Visual Edit is a small project that I developed over the course of a week and is in no way a finished and polished product. There are still plenty of features that I have in mind and may implement in the future.

It is recommended to make Visual Edit (ve.exe on the windows distributions) globally available for ease of use.
